Stripes and Checks – Lens-Artist’s Photography Challenge #132

This week’s Lens-Artists Photography Challenge is stripes and checks.

When I think stripes, zebra is the first thing to come to mind.

Stripes are easy, I thought. There are lots of stripes in nature. I thought of the multi-layered sedimentary rock that makes up so many of the spectacular landscapes of the desert Southwest.

Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument

There are lines of light and shadow.

Death Valley Dunes

You see stripes everywhere.

Checks, not so much.

These are sort of checks – I guess.

After all, Mother Nature is not really into squares and rectangles much. That’s more of a human thing, in most cases.

This plant is sort of checked.

But there are exceptions. The guinea fowl is the exception in this case. They totally sport the checked look in their wardrobe.

Isn’t biodiversity grand?

  1. Easy or not, you found a great gallery. Love the dunes – I hadn’t thought of that possibility! Checks in the guinea fowl are extraordinary and beautiful. Almost unbelievable. Biodiversity is. Thank you for joining in, Dianne.

    1. Thank you, Ann-Christine. I was stumped on the checks and couldn’t believe the guinea hen’s houndstooth check when I came across it. Too perfect!

  2. I do like guinea fowl! And I nearly went for zebras too – they have the best stripes 🙂 I love the way each is different, like a human fingerprint!

  3. Biodiversity IS grand Dianne and I love that you brought it to us! Especially liked your striated rocks and light/shadow images this week.
